Spotlight John Rigg!
Boise Basin Corvairs Club
My name is John Rigg. I am an accidental Corvair owner.

It was my only car for a few years. It was losing steam and leaking fluids. I got another car and a wife and a spare drive
train. The drive train project started in 1997 and so did the first kid. I had a second kid and she had eleven birthdays
before I finally finished rebuilding and trading out the drive train.
Some time ago, around 1988 or 89, a friend had a friend who
needed auto repairs done. I needed cash. The auto was a 1965
evening orchid Monza convertible.
I came across the Boise Basin Corvair Club when I
started to fix up the car. I did not join I just went to a
couple meetings to find who had parts and advice. I
can’t remember when I finally joined the club or why
but here I am President of the Club.

I try to fix my own car. I have always loved to take things
apart. I was even happier when I learned to put things
back together. It was truly heaven if it worked too. For
those times when it did not work there was the Boise
Basin Corvair Club. There is always someone in the
club that has advice to share. One even has shop
space on occasion. With the help of this combined
Corvair knowledge from all of all the members I was
able to completely tear down an engine and rebuild it.
The club has its benefits.
I have never worked on a Corvair
but she hands me “How to Keep
Your Corvair Alive” and the 1965
Corvair service manual. I accept
the challenge. I was able to fix it
several times for her. Then a
major head problem and the
owners need to return to her
home state put the car in my
possession. My plan was to fix it
and sell it. I was able to fix it but I
still have it.
